Alejandro Olmedo, Tenor

Biography (CV)

Alejandro Olmedo's opera career began with the opportunity to sing live for Placido Domingo in 1987. He dedicated a popular Mexican song in honor of Mr. Domingo who was impressed with the beauty and quality of his voice and encouraged Alejandro to study and train seriously for a career in opera. Alejandro took Mr. Domingo's advice and began studying voice with Fransisco Cassanova and Gustavo Marquez, music with Scott Wiles. In 1995, he entered the Operalia in Mexico City and became a semi-finalist. At the 1997 Operalia contest in Tokyo, he was a finalist. Mr. Domingo then introduced Mr. Olemedo to Bruno Pola, the internationally acclaimed Italian baritone. Mr. Pola became Alejandro's teacher and mentor. Mr. Olemedo also coached in operatic repertoire with Jeffrey Goldberg (Metropolitan Opera), James Besser, Aldo di Tullio, and Metropolitan Opera conductor Richard Woitach. Alejandro traveled to Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Sweden and Finland for five consecutive summers to continue his vocal studies with Mr. Pola. In 1998, at the invitation of Mr. Placido Domingo, Alejandro sang for King Juan Carlos of Spain, and his wife, Sophia, Queen of Spain. His current vocal coaches in New York are Metropolitan Opera Assistant Conductor Lucy Arner and Luigi Veccia.


Opera/Concert Performances

Mr. Olmedo is perched for an amazing international career. The Orphaic passion and beauty of his voice, and his performances in leading roles with opera companies in the United States, Mexico and Europe have won him wide acclaim. Mr. Olmedo has sung Otello(Otello) with Capital Opera(2006) and Regina Opera(2005); Turridu (Cavalleria Rusticana) with the New Rochelle Opera(2005), Regina Opera(2004), Amato Opera(2002), and Henry Street Opera(1999); Radames(Aida) with the Little Opera Company of New Jersey(2005); Canio (Pagliacci) with New Rochelle Opera (2005), Smithtown Center for the Performing Arts(2004), Regina Opera(2004, and the Amato Opera(2002, 1998); Don Jose(Carmen) with Regina Opera(2004), Capital Opera, PA(2003), and Operesque, Classical Concerts(2002); Cavaradossi(Tosca) with Treasure Coast Opera Society(2004) and Regina Opera(2002); Manrico(Il Trovatore) with Regina Opera(2004); Pinkerton(Madame Butterfly) with Regina Opera(2003) and Henry Street Opera(1999); The Duke(Rigoletto) Teatro Nacional Puebla, Mexico(2000); Alfredo (La Traviata) at the Teatro Communale in Rovereto, Italy(1999).

Mr. Olmedo has also appeared in concert at the Savonlinna Festival in Finland(2000), the Dicapo Opera in New York(90 and 2000's), at Weil Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall with the Lindt Ballet Theatre(2001) and Gala Concert, NY(2005), One World Symphony(2006), and was the tenor soloist in Beethoven's Ninth Symphony at Town Hall, New York City(2002).

Throughout 2006-2007, Mr. Olmedo has offers to perform Otello, Turandot, Tosca, Pagliacci, Cavalleria Rusticana, Carmen, Il tabarro and Fedora.
